Q: What’s your favorite Thanksgiving Day food? If you’re not American or Canadian, what is your favorite holiday food?

I'm not really a turkey lover.  The leftovers are decent, but overall, I think they're highly overrated.  HOWEVER, stuffing is DA BOMB!  I don't know what happened this year, but there was NO leftover stuffing, and I was choked!!!

Pumpkin pie also sucks.  Seriously, I will gag if I'm ever forced to eat pumpkin pie.  So this year, I made an apple pie, and it was sooooooooo easy and really good.  Thought I'd share the recipe (there's even a video to go with!):  http://allrecipes.com/recipe/chef-johns-easy-apple-pie/detail.aspx

I would love it if you followed me and let me know what your favorite holiday food is!  I'll be sure to follow back!!!

Review: The Disappearance of Lizzy Ross by Jessica Schein

A new four-book e-novella series featuring four different characters trying to find out the answer to one big question: where is Lizzy Ross? Book 1: Mimi Lerner and Lizzy Ross have been best friends since high school began and now, as seniors, they've made big plans together—from a trip to the Bahamas only months away to going to college the following year and ruling it like they do high school. But when Lizzy goes MIA after a party Mimi throws at a posh Manhattan hotel, everything is suddenly up in the air and Mimi must face facts: Lizzy Ross may not be the girl she knew, and the life she thought she'd have is going in a very different direction. Please note that this book ends in a cliffhanger and book 2 will be told by another character. Keep an eye out for the next installment, as told by a different character, of the Lizzy Ross series in early 2014!
Thank you to Netgalley and the author for allowing me to review an ARC of this novella.

This novella was really well done, and unlike anything I've ever read before.  Mimi has many character flaws, and is not exactly likable, and yet, I found myself feeling sorry for her almost instantly.  Despite being ridiculously wealthy, her parents have virtually nothing to do with her life, so the only love she receives is from her best friend, Lizzy, and her sometimes boyfriend/coke dealer, Jared.  When Lizzy disappears and Jared all but cuts her off, she feels very alone and sorry for herself.  She also feels confused by all the clues she comes across to Lizzy's disappearance.

The author does a fantastic job of revealing little tidbits here and there, things that make a reader say, "Whoah, didn't see that coming!"  I think it takes a rare talent for an author to take a character with questionable morals and make a reader not only identify with them, but sympathize with them, too.

I'm looking forward to seeing what happens in the next installment, and I'm extremely curious as to who will be the narrator!

My rating:  3.5 stars

Review - Definitely, Maybe in Love by Ophelia London

Goodreads description: Spring Honeycutt wants two things: to ace her sustainable living thesis and to save the environment. Both seem hopelessly unobtainable until her college professor suggests that with a new angle, her paper could be published. Spring swears she’ll do whatever it takes to ensure that happens.  “Whatever it takes,” however, means forming a partnership with the very hot, very privileged, very conceited Henry Knightly.  Henry is Spring's only hope at publication, but he's also the über-rich son of a land developer and cash-strapped Spring’s polar opposite. Too bad she can't help being attracted to the way he pushes her buttons, both politically and physically. As they work on her thesis, Spring finds there's more to Henry than his old money and argyle sweaters…but can she drop the loud-and-proud act long enough to let him in? Suddenly, choosing between what she wants and what she needs puts Spring at odds with everything she believes in.  Definitely, Maybe in Love is a modern take on Pride and Prejudice that proves true love is worth risking a little pride.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for allowing me to review an ARC of this novel.

Technically, there's nothing really wrong with "Definitely, Maybe in Love", and yeah, I bet you can see where I'm going with this one.  It's one of those, "It's not you, it's me" type of stories.  As it says in the synopsis, this is a modern take on Pride and Prejudice, but I think maybe it was a little overdone, to the point where it was too unbelievable, and, in my honest opinion, a bit silly.

First of all, Spring.  Did I like her?  I don't really know.  I admire her passion - she thinks she's all about sustainability.  Every time she drank out of a water bottle, however, my mind rewound to this past summer, where my son watched a documentary on the evils of the bottled water companies.  He preached to anyone within hearing about everything he had learned, and it was kind of funny at the time, but like I said, every time Spring drank water out of a bottle, I would think, "She's a hypocrite."  Maybe she just hasn't watched that same documentary, ha!

And Henry?  I'm sorry, but I did NOT like Henry.  I know he's supposed to be all Mr. Darcy reincarnated, but he is not my type at all.  I liked him a bit better towards the end of the book, but whereas Darcy's personality kind of fit with the times of Pride and Prejudice, Henry's personality didn't seem to fit with the twenty first century, and so his transformation seemed a little cheesy to me.

There were other things that didn't seem to fit in this day and age.  For example, when Henry and Dart just moved without a word and didn't tell anyone - does that ever happen?  And, I don't care how good of a friend he is, if a guy tells you your girlfriend doesn't love you, you don't disappear without a trace - you tell him to eat shit, and then you go talk to your girlfriend and figure stuff out for yourself!

Anyway, call me a total cynic, but this book just wasn't for me at this time.  I do, however, think that Ophelia London's writing is promising - I would like to see more from her in the future!

It's Time for...Top Ten Tuesday

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created at The Broke and the Bookish.  This week's Top Ten list is: Top Ten Books I'd Recommend To a Reluctant YA Reader.

Once upon a time, I was a reluctant YA reader.  I couldn't figure out why adults were reading the Harry Potter series.  I didn't hear about Twilight until waaaaaaay after everyone else.  And I didn't want to read the Hunger Games because I thought Katniss sounded too much like cat piss!  But I have since been reformed, and I'm ready to tell the world what books are THE best if you don't want to feel like too embarrassed  for reading YA

1.  Pretty much the best book ever.  'Nuff said.

2.  Also set during World War II, and also very well done.  It might make you cry!

3.  Or anything by Melina Marchetta.  Sooooooo good!

4.  Or anything by John Green.  He pretty much kicks ass, regardless of whether his characters are teens or not!

5.  If you like paranormal, you have to check out this series - it's very well written!

6.  Another paranormal series.  Honestly, I don't normally like paranormal stuff, but Kelley Armstrong is a fantastic writer - I'd read anything by her!

7.  If you like fantasy, and even if you don't, this book is a must!  It surprised me how much I loved it!!!

9.  This one was one of the first YA books I ever read, upon recommendation from a fellow book club member.  We had just finished reading "The Road", and it was so depressing that I just wanted to read something that would make me laugh.  Well, holy crap, I laughed my arse off!!!  And the book is set in a town just a few hours down the road, so that's a total bonus!

10.  Obviously I got over the whole "cat piss" thing.  Everybody should read this, I don't care who you are, and if you haven't, then crawl out from under that rock and do it, dammit!

Whew, that was fun!  I might even do it again next week!  Thanks for looking.

This week's feature is a question:

Q: Are there any book to movie adaptations where you think the movie is better than the book?

Oh man, that is so hard!  Rarely can a movie adaptation even equal the book, but surpass?  The one that comes to mind for me is:

This is one movie I can watch over and over, and I've only read the book once.  I remember the book being good, but come on - Renee Zellweger sliding down that fireman's pole?  That image is completely PRICELESS!

And the casting is pretty much perfect, too!  Now it's time for you to join in on the fun!

"Falling for Mr. Wrong" Blog Tour and Review

Welcome to my stop on the "Falling for Mr. Wrong" blog tour, brought to you by InkSlinger PR!

Title: Falling for Mr.Wrong
Series: A Bencher Family Book
Author: Inara Scott
Publisher: Entangled Indulgence
Publication Date: November 11, 2013
Summary:
Looking for Mrs. Right...

Single father of three, Ross Bencher, knows the kind of woman he wants: someone predictable, reliable, and safe, who can give his kids the security they deserve. Someone entirely different from high-altitude mountaineer Kelsey. Kelsey bewitches him with her long legs and wild passion and is about as far from his ideal as a woman can get, but try telling that to his body. Or his heart...

Falling for Mr. Wrong...

When Kelsey agreed to fill in as a temporary nanny for her best friend’s agency before a big climbing expedition, she had no idea she’d be working for drop-dead sexy Ross Bencher, a man she can’t seem to keep her hands off. She knows if she wants to bring herself—and her father—back alive from the Himalayan Mountains, she can’t afford second-guessing, attachments, or distractions. But Ross’s blue eyes and strong hands leave her gasping...and questioning everything she’s ever known about love...

Author Biography:
Inara grew up in winter wonderland of Buffalo, NY. Consequently, she spent much of her childhood complaining about being cold. Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for allowing me to review an ARC of "Falling For Mr. Wrong" by Inara Scott.

I wasn't really expecting much from this book, so I was surprised to find that I really enjoyed it!  The writing was solid, the characters were relatable and wonderfully drawn, and the plot was enough to keep me reading almost straight through - which is something for me these days!

Kelsey - she's pretty awesome!  She reminds me of a friend of mine who loves to rock climb and lives life completely unencumbered.  Kelsey knows how to survive a blizzard in Nepal with nothing but a rock and a stick (okay, slight exaggeration!) but can't cook KD to save her life!  She's completely committed to her father, but scared to let anyone else into her life.  I love that she's athletic and driven - she's quite unlike any character I've ever read.

Ross - he's been burned in love before, so this time he HAS to get it right, for the sake of his kids.  He sounds like such a great father and a really nice person, but he's as gun shy as Kelsey!  It was so much fun to watch these two battle it out from completely different perspectives.

If you're looking for something light and romantic with realistic characters, you should definitely pick up something by Inara Scott - from what I've read, she won't disappoint!

"Breathtakingly intense and unbelievably sexy - WITH EVERY HEARTBEAT will have you packing your bags for Italy to go find a real-life Raphael. Another sizzling must-read from Melody Grace!"

EXCERPT:

“Close your eyes. Now listen to the music. Just feel it.” Raphael’s voice comes, low against my ear.
I shiver. In the dark of my mind, my senses are suddenly heightened. I can feel the heat from his body, just inches away, hear the pulse of the music, like a wave rolling into shore.
            “Good, relax, just feel it.”
The sensation is overwhelming. The heat of him, the feel of his taut, solid torso pressing against me, the scent of him, deep and musky. With my eyes closed, there’s nothing to distract me, no way to block it out or focus away. Just us: me, him, and the music, nothing else in the world.
Raphael’s hands reach further on my hips, drawing me into him. Our bodies slide together, and the touch is so foreign, so intimate, I find it hard to breathe. To even think. My heart is racing, every nerve and muscle sparkling with electricity. I’ve danced with a partner before, of course, hundreds of times, but that was so different to this sensual rhythm, the thrilling ebb and flow of movement between us, like we’re bound together by the beat, moving as one.
I want to stay locked in this dark, breathless state forever, but I want to see Raphael more. I force myself to open my eyes. And there he is: staring down at me, his face inches from mine.
I catch my breath, dizzy. His dark eyes blaze under the lanterns, echoing everything his body is saying. He’s so beautiful up close, so powerful: a dark angel in the night, awakening feelings I’ve never even dreamed about.
And out of nowhere, I realize the truth. I’ve been telling myself it’s just curiosity pulling me to him, sending me out into the city to find him. But that’s a lie. This isn’t just a fascination, an idle crush, no, this is something deeper, a desire that snakes through my veins, hot and hungry.
I want him. I want all of him.
As if reading my mind, Raphael moves one hand up my back; a slow caress, hot against my skin. My eyes don’t leave his, but I shiver under his touch, feeling the heat, the purpose behind his touch as his fingers trace up my spine to the back of my neck, curling to tangle in my hair.
We’re moving slower now, swaying to the beat in a sensual dance. There’s no space left between us, our bodies pressed together, sweaty and breathless and feeling so damn right, it’s like I was made to be here, fitted to him, chest to chest, hip to hip. Raphael leans closer, closer, and I catch my breath, lost in the rhythm of our bodies, the intensity of his dark eyes, drawing me into him, so natural, it’s the easiest thing in the world when he closes those last, precious inches between us, and finds my lips with his.
The kiss blazes through me like wildfire.
It’s overwhelming, a flood of sensation like I’ve never known before, setting every nerve ablaze. My brain shuts off, short-circuited by the rush of pleasure, and all my hesitance is forgotten.
            You were made for this.
I instinctively reach up, pulling his head down to me, hungry for more. Raphael groans against my mouth, and then he’s kissing me deeper, his lips hot and demanding, his tongue probing, tasting me, sliding against mine in a sweet rush of friction that makes me shudder, swaying against him. Raphael grips me tightly, holding me up with his strong arms, and I melt into him, eager for more.
God, this kiss is heaven, a dark temptation that blots everything from my mind until all that exists in my world is him, Raphael, his lips driving me mindless, his body promising so much more.

How did I live before this feeling? How will I ever stop, knowing what I do now?
